Cave De Prisse Macon Prisse, ‘Les Clochettes’ 2020
A sensational and affordable white Burgundy. Pure Chardonnay fermented in stainless steel to preserve its freshness and soft honey and lemon flavours. Full bodied with the perfect fresh and crisp... acidic finish. We have tasted over 20 wines from the Mâconnais region in the lead up to our selection of this particular Mâcon Prissé which was undoubtedly the best, by some margin. A glorious and extremely well-balanced white wine and at a perfect 12.5% Alcohol.

Clos de Nouys, Vouvray, Sec 2020
Clos de Nouys is the essence of dry Vouvray and this 25 acre estate is found just outside the eponymous sleepy village, where they are the masters of Chenin Blanc. This is as good and affordable as... Chenin Blanc gets. On the palate this is dry, full bodied and with a hint of flinty minerality and fantastic acidity for a clean finish that suits seafood perfectly.

Jean-Jacques Girard, Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2019
A stunning Pinot Noir From a Burgundian Maison that dates back to the 18th century. An opulent nose of crushed red berries, cherries, blood orange and a touch of balsamic. Great structure on the palate, a vibrant, fruit-led finish with flecks of smoke, and mouth-watering acidity. A bargain.

Joseph Mellot, Sancerre La Grande Chatelaine , Cuvee Prestige 2017
Most Sancerres these days are relatively young, simple, fresh offerings, for which merchants increasingly charge a pretty penny! This prestige cuvée from Joseph Mellot is from the 2017 vintage and... quite simply blew us away upon tasting.
From the Loire estate’s oldest vines on clay & limestone, this stunning wine has an opulent nose of quince, pear, citrus zest, white blossom, brioche & dried vanilla pod. On the palate this is richly profiled which a gorgeous texture, fresh acidity, and just a hint of smoke on the long, mouth-watering finish. This is a sublime white you simply must try.

Le Clos de L’Hermitage Clos L Hermitage, Lalande de Pomerol 2016
Separated by the Barbanne stream and once but no longer seen as the poorer relation of neighbouring Pomerol, with which it shares broadly similar clay-gravel soils, in the words of Roger Voss,... “many of today’s Lalande de Pomerols are of an equal quality to a middle-ranking Pomerol. They have the same opulent richness … and [an] ability in the better vintages to age over five years and up to 10”.
Indeed, all the key wine consultants in Bordeaux, from Michel Rolland, to Denis Durantou and Thomas Duclos are now active at Lalande de Pomerol properties, which have benefitted from a warming climate to soften tannins and increase luxuriousness.
The rule with Bordeaux has always been to buy from value properties in the best vintages when everyone makes good wine. 2016 is one of the greatest vintages of all time and thus we have searched far and wide to find a new Noble Rot claret which offers exceptional drinking pleasure for the price.
Enter, Clos L’Hermitage 2016, a tremendous Lalande de Pomerol red with the opulence and ageing ability Roger Voss talked about above. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc from vines a minimum of 30 years old, this is a sumptuous Right Bank red accompanied by a gorgeous floral and red berry perfume, with ripe blackberries, cherries, and touches of cigar box and meat on the palate. Structure, poise and balance give way to a long finish and excellent, mouth-watering acidity.
Wines like this one from a truly great vintage don’t come along often and whether it is to provide immediate drinking pleasure now, or to lay down as a treat for another time, we know this will become a new favourite with our clients.

Vignerons des Terres Secretes Saint Veran, Croix de Montceau 2018
Saint Véran has long had the reputation of being the most undervalued of all Burgundy’s white appellations and was the late Auberon Waugh’s ‘go to’ white wine. We have found a gem here with... Croix de Montceau from a south facing parcel of vines found on clay-limestone soil that date back to the Jurassic era. A wonderfully refreshing and exciting Saint Véran with excellent texture underscored by citrus, pineapple and floral flavours with just the right amount of minerality.
