Chateau Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2023

Quintus 2023 introduces a wine that reflects its heritage and benefits from the acquisition of Grand Pontet, as Domaine Clarence Dillon has added this wonderful terroir to the estate. Grand Pontet... brings limestone-dominated soil, enhancing the quality of this investment-grade wine. This top-range Saint-Émilion wine comes from land that borders the likes of Ausone. Audrey Bernard, who brings her expertise from Opus One, along with new director Mariette Veyssiere, has produced a great wine here. The 2023 Quintus is a rich, racy Grand Vin. Ample and resonant, the 2023 offers up copious dark-toned fruit, cedar, mint, tobacco, incense and French oak. There's tons of power and breadth but also more freshness than the early vintages, even if the oak is a touch present today. 2028 – 2048 94/96 Points Antonio Galloni This year, the 2023 Quintus is a well-performing wine, possessing a dense, complex bouquet of smoke, dark wild berries and licorice intertwined with a delicate, oaky frame. Fleshy and ample, medium to full-bodied, it’s perfectly balanced with a delicate, lively core of fruit and a long, ethereal and chalky finish. The influence of the Grand Pontet limestone plateau lends additional straightness and precision to this wine, a blend of 78.3% Merlot and 21.7% Cabernet Franc. 93/95 Points Yohan Castaing The purity of the fruit here is so impressive, with raspberry, lead pencil, cedar and sandalwood. Medium to full body with very fine and intense tannins that run the length of the wine. Mineral. Tensioned. Beautifully integrated and sophisticated at the end. Lightly salty. 78.3% merlot and 21.7% cabernet franc. 95/96 Points James Suckling Brambled fruit, richly textured, with juice that runs through the palate bringing you into the heart of St Emilion. Push and pull in texture between grilled smoky oak and slate-scraping pumice stone tannins, this takes its time to open, well judged and skilfully constructed. 43hl/h yield, 42ha in production since addition of Grand Pontet in 2021. Audrey Bernard joined the technical team in March 2021 direct from Opus One, plus new director Mariette Veyssiere. 94 Points Jane Anson

Le Dragon de Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020

THE WINE ADVOCATE (90 - 92) points Drink Date: 2023 - 2038 Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Issue Date: 20th May 2021, Source: May 2021 Week 3, The Wine Advocate "Composed of 84.7% Merlot and 15.3%... Cabernet Franc, while possessing an alcohol of 15.2%, the 2020 le Dragon de Quintus has a deep garnet-purple color and notions of plum preserves, kirsch, black raspberries and cinnamon toast, plus hints of mossy tree bark and incense. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with juicy black and red berries, supported by soft tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and spicy." JAMES SUCKLING 92-93 Points 28 Apr, 2021 – "A soft, round red with blackberry, chocolate and hints of spice and cedar. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins and a juicy finish." DECANTER 89 points Tasted by Jane Anson(at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021) "A fleshy, powerful, black cherry and damson filled Dragon. The high alcohols are just about matched by the depth of fruit but it brings things to a slightly abrupt finish, with an emphasis on some bitter grilled cumin spice. The harvest began on 11th September for the Merlot grapes and on 23rd September for the Cabernet Franc. Drinking Window 2024 - 2036." JANCIS ROBINSON 16 points Drink: 2023 - 2029 Full bottle 1,340 g. Cask sample taken 13 April. Nice and fresh! 84.7% Merlot, 15.3% Cabernet Franc. "Mid crimson with a pale rim. Light but warm, fully ripe impression on the nose. And a little marked acidity on the finish. The overall palate impression is not as rich as many of the 2020 St-Émilions I have been tasting, but then this is the first second wine I have tasted from the appellation in this vintage. Just a little stringy on the end.
