Chateau Langoa Barton 3eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2022

Langoa Barton has made an exceptional 2022 with scores from the critics as high as 96-97. We were all captivated by it when we tasted it in Bordeaux at the end of March; it is a brilliant Langoa... Barton. “the brilliant 2022 Langoa Barton... it should match or even surpass the 2019 and 2016 vintages, and it is sure to be one of the more intelligent purchases of the en primeur campaign.” William Kelley Wine Advocate Château Langoa-Barton, (like its sister estate, Léoville Barton) is one of the few chateaux, out of all the 1855 Classified Growths, that is still in the hands of the same family that was the owner at the time of the 1855 classification. The estate today is run by Lillian Barton after her father, Anthony Barton, one of the Bordeaux legends sadly passed away last year. The style of Château Langoa Barton is quite different than that of Château Léoville Barton. Though both are vinified and matured in exactly the same way, a large part of that of course has to do with their vineyards and their location - the vines for Langoa Barton are due south of Leoville Barton and face the River Gironde, with north by north-west exposure. The Château Langoa-Barton blend is dominated by hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, but it sees a higher proportion of Merlot than Léoville-Barton and a touch of Cabernet Franc. The gravel-rich soils and cooling waters of the Gironde contribute to its silky, elegant appeal and ability to age gracefully. A fantastic wine from an excellent vintage - a beautifully balanced classic claret displaying typical St Julien restraint and elegance and in our opinion, one of the best value Cru Classé estates... "The 2022 Langoa Barton is vibrant and focused, as the best wines are in this vintage...There's a purity to the 2022 that is impossible to miss." “Langoa could turn out to be one of the Sleepers of 2022” Antonio Galloni

IDDA, Etna Rosso 2020

Since its first 2017 vintage, IDDA Etna Rosso has been causing huge excitement in both the Italian wine scene and lovers of (Italian) wine globally. The wonderful result of the teaming up of Etna... wine producer Alberto Graci and Barbaresco legend Angelo Gaja (Gaja's wines have been described as "perhaps the finest Italian wines ever made" Wine Spectator). The name IDDA comes from Sicilian dialect and means 'she'- a term of endearment that the locals use to refer to Mt Etna, the highest active volcano of Europe. Gaja had been intrigued with Etna since his friend, the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, first introduced him to the mountains' splendour in the late 90’, and it remained a rumbling vision forming in his mind. Remarkably Burgundian in both weight and style, IDDA Etna Rosso is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese grapes grown on the South West slopes of the volcano at an altitude of between 600m and 800m above sea level. Fermented in a combination of oak and concrete vats and then followed by 24 months of ageing in oak and concrete. Rich, beautiful, opulent, charming, fresh, harmonious with a lovely long lingering finish - the superlatives flow... “A perfumed nose of red berries, spiced cherries, hazelnuts and smoke. Medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and bright acidity. Poised and round with a silky texture on the mid-palate and volume to the focused, long finish. It really grows on the palate. Better after 2024.” 96 points, James Suckling

Taittinger Les Folies de la Marquetterie NV

Taittinger is the Champagne of the moment as their commitment to quality has seen the market price of recent releases of their premium Comte de Champagne increase by 30-35% over the last... year. Follies de la Marquette is not really NV as it is aged in bottle for 5 years before release and all comes from grapes grown from vineyards that surround Chateau de La Marquetterie, Taittingers historic home. The blend is 45% Chardonay & 55% Pinot Noir. It has immense richness and complexity with fine delicate bubbles – peaches, apricots, brioche & a hint of vanilla with a long distinctive finish. A gorgeous Champagne of the highest quality and at a modest 12.5% Alcohol.
