An excellent Cremant Blanc de Blanc from Burgundy at a very reasonable price. Very fresh with lovely sparkling chardonnay undertones, good grip, gorgeous bubbles and a lingering finish. Made in exactly the same was as Champagne – and better than most at twice the price.

The blend is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot
Interestingly, as the wine continues its march to official biodynamic certification, the wine was matured in 70% oak barrels and,... excitingly, 30% new clay amphorae, which naturally create convection currents to delicately stir the wine, adding real texture and depth of flavour.

Chateau Langoa Barton 3eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2022
Langoa Barton has made an exceptional 2022 with scores from the critics as high as 96-97. We were all captivated by it when we tasted it in Bordeaux at the end of March; it is a brilliant Langoa... Barton.

Château Langoa-Barton, (like its sister estate, Léoville Barton) is one of the few chateaux, out of all the 1855 Classified Growths, that is still in the hands of the same family that was the owner at the time of the 1855 classification. The estate today is run by Lillian Barton after her father, Anthony Barton, one of the Bordeaux legends sadly passed away last year.
The style of Château Langoa Barton is quite different than that of Château Léoville Barton. Though both are vinified and matured in exactly the same way, a large part of that of course has to do with their vineyards and their location - the vines for Langoa Barton are due south of Leoville Barton and face the River Gironde, with north by north-west exposure. The Château Langoa-Barton blend is dominated by hand-harvested Cabernet Sauvignon, but it sees a higher proportion of Merlot than Léoville-Barton and a touch of Cabernet Franc. The gravel-rich soils and cooling waters of the Gironde contribute to its silky, elegant appeal and ability to age gracefully.

Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2eme Cru Classe, Saint-Julien 2022
Château Léoville Poyferré 2022, unequivocally St Julien and one of the best wines of the appellation, illustrates the perfect balance between modernism and tradition. Just released, this... “inouï”, meaning “unheard of” vintage "is already a legendary Poyferré, and it is only halfmade.” ( 19+ Matthew Jukes). We were deeply impressed with it at the recent tastings and are are happy to report that we are in good company, "I was blown away by the 2022 Château Léoville Poyferré" Jeb Dunnuck who awarded it a potentially perfect score (97-100).
This sumptuous, powerful, yet sophisticated and charming St Julien is a classic blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and 4% each of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot (the higher proportion of Merlot adding a silky, sexy roundness while the petit Merlot and Cabernet Franc bring finesse, delicacy, elegance and freshness to the table.)

Pontet Canet has long been at the forefront of biodynamic viticulture in Bordeaux; practices (a Limoges clay-based sunscreen and a camomile spray to counter any hydric stress) which lent themselves to be in harmony with the warmer climatic conditions in 2022, resulting in vines that were in perfect health.
Alfred Tesseron told us that 2022 is the best wine that Pontet Canet has made under his ownership. "It has everything" he said. Production is down 20% on last year and the harvest was the earliest ever, starting on September 8th. It was also the longest harvest, finishing on the 28th. The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
A fifth growth, but with its vineyards next to those of Mouton Rothschild, Pontet Canet belongs to an elite club of over-achieving chateaux offering incredible value, at a mere fraction of its Medoc peers.

Pontet Canet has long been at the forefront of biodynamic viticulture in Bordeaux; practices (a Limoges clay-based sunscreen and a camomile spray to counter any hydric stress) which lent themselves to be in harmony with the warmer climatic conditions in 2022, resulting in vines that were in perfect health.
Alfred Tesseron told us that 2022 is the best wine that Pontet Canet has made under his ownership. "It has everything" he said. Production is down 20% on last year and the harvest was the earliest ever, starting on September 8th. It was also the longest harvest, finishing on the 28th. The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot with the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot
A fifth growth, but with its vineyards next to those of Mouton Rothschild, Pontet Canet belongs to an elite club of over-achieving chateaux offering incredible value, at a mere fraction of its Medoc peers.

The weather conditions in 2022 were perfectly suited to the Estates organic and biodynamic farming practices - practices which are helped with a little technological assistance! The grapes are monitored by satellite image to tell the team precisely when they should be hand-harvested. They are then picked in batches according to each plot’s progress, rather than one set date being imposed to harvest all. While being transported to the winery, they are covered in ergonomic hoods – designed by Daniel and inspired by Himalayan Sherpas – for protection against the elements.
