Chateau Angludet, Margaux 2020

The blend is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 12% Petit Verdot Interestingly, as the wine continues its march to official biodynamic certification, the wine was matured in 70% oak barrels and,... excitingly, 30% new clay amphorae, which naturally create convection currents to delicately stir the wine, adding real texture and depth of flavour. James Suckling "Lots of blackberry and blueberry aromas and flavors with licorice and tar. Medium-bodied with a solid core of fruit and a long, creamy finish. Best of the trilogy". 92-93 points Julia Harding "Deepest crimson with smudgy rim. Lively, fresh aroma with the fruit not the oak to the fore... definitely one of the more approachable and digestible Margaux 2020s I have tasted. Hint of chocolate on the finish". 16 (out of 20) points

Another excellent release from a great vintage. It is softer and more elegant than the 2019 but the style is similar – layers of rich red fruit, underpinned with a hint of plums and spices. Soft... ripe tannins and vanilla from the oak barrels already integrated in the wine and a great long finish. Drink now - 2029. I recommend opening it 30 mins before serving which will allow it to open up.

Chateau Grissac Chateau de Grissac, Cotes de Bourg 2016

A remarkably good 2016 that we knew we had to buy the moment we first tasted it. The wine is a delicious blend of Merlot and Malbec, with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, that gives it layers of rich,... lush red berry fruit flavours, soft tannins and a hint of exciting minerality, that totally dwarfs its relatively humble status. It's no surprise this wine won a gold medal from Bordeaux, who are the harshest judges of their own. Château de Grissac dates back to the 14th century and has had a rich history, particularly during the French revolution. It is now owned and run by wine maker Madame Cottavoz who has devoted her life to her vineyards and wine. All of the above for only £10.95 a bottle – high quality, affordable Claret from a great vintage – welcome aboard Château de Grissac.

Chateau Rieussec Premier Cru Classe, Sauternes 2016

The 2016 Rieussec is gorgeous. Despite the relatively low acidity of the vintage, it preserves a good deal of aromatic freshness, with plenty of lemon confit, passion fruit and coconut overtones. The... decision to lower the Sémillon a touch and increase the Sauvignon Blanc has paid handsome rewards. The 2016 is not a truly profound Sauternes - that would have been nearly impossible this vintage - but it comes close. Quite frankly, it is nearly impossible to spit. Rating: 93-96 Antonio Galloni, www.vinous.com (Apr 2017) A step up over the Carmes de Rieussec, the beautiful 2016 Château Rieussec has remarkable purity and freshness while still packing beautiful depth of fruit. Honeyed peach, apricot, flower oil, and even a hint of wet stone all emerge from this full-bodied, thick, opulent effort. I love it. It has a rounded, sexy style ideal for drinking any time over the coming 15-20 years. The 2016 is a final blend of 83% Sémillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle. 37.5cl bottles. Drinking range: 2019 - 2037 Rating: 97 Jeb Dunnuck, www.jebdunnuck.com (Feb 2019) The 2016 Rieussec is a blend of 83% Sémillon, 12% Sauvignon Blanc and 5% Muscadelle picked form 26 September until 4 November. It has a much more straightforward bouquet compared to the 2015 with light honeysuckle and white flower aromas. There is good acidity in the mouth thanks the passerillé berries, nicely balanced with a touch of orange zest towards the linear finish that will hopefully gain more weight during its élevage. It is likely to be an earlier-drinking Rieussec than the 2015. Rating: 92-94 Neal Martin, www.vinous.com (Apr 2017) Lots of botrytis here in addition to dried mushrooms and dried fruit such as pineapple and peaches. Medium to full body. Medium sweet. Very long and intense. A triumph. Rating: 98-99 James Suckling, www.jamessuckling.com (Apr 2017)

Errazuriz, Wild Ferment Chardonnay, Casablanca Valley 2020

Full-bodied and rich, with creamy ripe fruit and toasty, spicy oak. Straw yellow colour with greenish hues. Notes of citrus fruits, melon and white stone fruits. On the palate, citrus and soft notes... of tropical fruits, with a delicate lovely creaminess. Fresh, long and unbelievably well balanced. Complex and elegant. Drink 2023-2026 13% ABV Harvested from the 'La Escultura Estate,' located just 32 km from the Pacific Ocean, where cool sea breezes help preserve the freshness in the grapes; coupled with warm days allows for gradual ripening of the grapes which helps preserve their aromas, flavours and acidity. The use of native naturally occurring yeasts, allowing natural fermentation and the subtle use of 10% French oak, result in a wine that is unbelievably well balanced. Enjoy it over the next two to three years to experience further integration of oak and fruit.

Errazuriz, Wild Ferment Pinot Noir, Casablanca Valley 2021

‘Wild & wonderful – delicious light Pinot. Light strawberry & hedgerow flavours mingle with clean & fresh & fresh pinot fruit. Delicious – Burgundy watch out” Esme Johnstone "Displaying a... beautiful, bright cherry red colour, the Wild Ferment Pinot Noir offers aromas of cherries, roses and a light touch of mushrooms, all framed by soft smoky tones. The palate is round showing lifted and fresh red fruit. Lovely spicy notes are complemented by hints of oak and great tension that ensures a full and lingering finish." A Pinot Noir crafted with a nod to Burgundy tradition: natural wild yeast fermentation has imparted maximum complexity and charm. The grapes for Wild Ferment Pinot Noir come from La Escultura vineyard, located in Casablanca Valley, 32 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean and from our Aconcagua Costa vineyard which is closer located just 12 km. Warm summer days, morning fog and fresh evening breezes that blow in from the coast, allow for a gradual ripening process of the grapes that helps to preserve their aromas, flavours and acidity. The soil presents fine clay and sandy loam textures with low vigour potential.

IDDA, Etna Rosso 2020

Since its first 2017 vintage, IDDA Etna Rosso has been causing huge excitement in both the Italian wine scene and lovers of (Italian) wine globally. The wonderful result of the teaming up of Etna... wine producer Alberto Graci and Barbaresco legend Angelo Gaja (Gaja's wines have been described as "perhaps the finest Italian wines ever made" Wine Spectator). The name IDDA comes from Sicilian dialect and means 'she'- a term of endearment that the locals use to refer to Mt Etna, the highest active volcano of Europe. Gaja had been intrigued with Etna since his friend, the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, first introduced him to the mountains' splendour in the late 90’, and it remained a rumbling vision forming in his mind. Remarkably Burgundian in both weight and style, IDDA Etna Rosso is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese grapes grown on the South West slopes of the volcano at an altitude of between 600m and 800m above sea level. Fermented in a combination of oak and concrete vats and then followed by 24 months of ageing in oak and concrete. Rich, beautiful, opulent, charming, fresh, harmonious with a lovely long lingering finish - the superlatives flow... “A perfumed nose of red berries, spiced cherries, hazelnuts and smoke. Medium-bodied with finely grained tannins and bright acidity. Poised and round with a silky texture on the mid-palate and volume to the focused, long finish. It really grows on the palate. Joseph Drouhin, Chassagne-Montrachet Premier Cru, Les Embazees 2019

Its aromas, reminiscent of hawthorn, acacia, honeysuckle, evolve toward hazelnut, and after a few years maturing, deliver some hints of honey and ripe pear. On the palate, this opulent wine offers long lasting flavours lingering a long time in the aftertaste"." - Joseph Drouhin

‘Bright gentle lemon colour with very fresh aromatic sauvignon flavours - I have thought for some time good wine from Menetou gives good Sancerre a run for its money. Great value. Joseph Mellot, Sancerre La Grande Chatelaine , Cuvee Prestige 2017

Most Sancerres these days are relatively young, simple, fresh offerings, for which merchants increasingly charge a pretty penny! This prestige cuvée from Joseph Mellot is from the 2017 vintage and... quite simply blew us away upon tasting. From the Loire estate’s oldest vines on clay & limestone, this stunning wine has an opulent nose of quince, pear, citrus zest, white blossom, brioche & dried vanilla pod. Le Clos de L’Hermitage Clos L Hermitage, Lalande de Pomerol 2016

Separated by the Barbanne stream and once but no longer seen as the poorer relation of neighbouring Pomerol, with which it shares broadly similar clay-gravel soils, in the words of Roger Voss,... “many of today’s Lalande de Pomerols are of an equal quality to a middle-ranking Pomerol. They have the same opulent richness … and [an] ability in the better vintages to age over five years and up to 10”. Indeed, all the key wine consultants in Bordeaux, from Michel Rolland, to Denis Durantou and Thomas Duclos are now active at Lalande de Pomerol properties, which have benefitted from a warming climate to soften tannins and increase luxuriousness. The rule with Bordeaux has always been to buy from value properties in the best vintages when everyone makes good wine. 2016 is one of the greatest vintages of all time and thus we have searched far and wide to find a new Noble Rot claret which offers exceptional drinking pleasure for the price. Enter, Clos L’Hermitage 2016, a tremendous Lalande de Pomerol red with the opulence and ageing ability Roger Voss talked about above. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc from vines a minimum of 30 years old, this is a sumptuous Right Bank red accompanied by a gorgeous floral and red berry perfume, with ripe blackberries, cherries, and touches of cigar box and meat on the palate. Structure, poise and balance give way to a long finish and excellent, mouth-watering acidity. Wines like this one from a truly great vintage don’t come along often and whether it is to provide immediate drinking pleasure now, or to lay down as a treat for another time, we know this will become a new favourite with our clients.

Le Dragon de Quintus, Saint-Emilion Grand Cru 2020

THE WINE ADVOCATE (90 - 92) points Drink Date: 2023 - 2038 Reviewed by: Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Issue Date: 20th May 2021, Source: May 2021 Week 3, The Wine Advocate "Composed of 84.7% Merlot and 15.3%... Cabernet Franc, while possessing an alcohol of 15.2%, the 2020 le Dragon de Quintus has a deep garnet-purple color and notions of plum preserves, kirsch, black raspberries and cinnamon toast, plus hints of mossy tree bark and incense. The full-bodied palate is jam-packed with juicy black and red berries, supported by soft tannins and lovely freshness, finishing long and spicy." JAMES SUCKLING 92-93 Points 28 Apr, 2021 – "A soft, round red with blackberry, chocolate and hints of spice and cedar. It’s medium-bodied with silky tannins and a juicy finish." DECANTER 89 points Tasted by Jane Anson(at Primeur week tastings in Bordeaux, 01 May 2021) "A fleshy, powerful, black cherry and damson filled Dragon. The high alcohols are just about matched by the depth of fruit but it brings things to a slightly abrupt finish, with an emphasis on some bitter grilled cumin spice. The harvest began on 11th September for the Merlot grapes and on 23rd September for the Cabernet Franc. Drinking Window 2024 - 2036." JANCIS ROBINSON 16 points Drink: 2023 - 2029 Full bottle 1,340 g. Cask sample taken 13 April. Nice and fresh! 84.7% Merlot, 15.3% Cabernet Franc. "Mid crimson with a pale rim. Light but warm, fully ripe impression on the nose. And a little marked acidity on the finish. The overall palate impression is not as rich as many of the 2020 St-Émilions I have been tasting, but then this is the first second wine I have tasted from the appellation in this vintage. Just a little stringy on the end.

Louis Jadot, Bourgogne Chardonnay Couvent des Jacobins 2020

One of the most trusted names in Burgundy, Louis Jadot make this excellent white Bourgogne with, unlike several of their wines, a good proportion of their own vineyard-grown fruit rather than bought... in grapes, from sites in the Côte d’Or & the Côte Chalonnaise. Great structure, lively acidity on the finish, as well as touches of green apple, peach, white blossom and a little vanilla, thanks to part fermentation in wood, make this like a petit Meursault, in our opinion. A white burg bargain!
